Old Spitalfields Market

Spitalfields

About

Open daily and bursting on Sundays, this is the place to discover London's hot new designers or rummage through vintage finds and buy your fruit and veg for your evening meal along the way.  Old Spitalfields Market opened in 1682 originally a produce market and is now the center of the market activity in the area. Nearby are the Sunday-only tat markets of Brick Lane and Petticoat Lane, the Columbia Road Flower Market (Sundays only again) and the meat wholesale Smithfield Market which actually is quite a sight if you can rise early enough. The entire neighborhood is full of funky clothing and home decor boutiques, coffee shops and colourful East End history. Should shopping not be enough for you, visit Whitechapel Art Gallery. The nearest underground station is Liverpool Street.
