Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve

Durban, South Africa

About

Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve is a park in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, about 21 km (13 mi) inland from Port Shepstone. The Oribi Gorge is more a canyon than a gorge. It is almost 5 km (3.1 mi) wide at some points, and over 400 m (1,300 ft) deep. The reserve is located at the confluence of the Mzimkulu River and Mximkulwana River. Erosion by these rivers have carved out nearly 30 km (19 mi) of spectacular kloofs and crags, covered with lush subtropical vegetation. The dense forest of the sandstone cliffs is home to various small mammals while the large leguaans excavate their burrows in the banks of these rivers.
