About

Syed Balkhi came to Kashmir in the beginning of 15th century. He was from Balk (Afghanistan). He accepted Sheikh Nurudin wali as his pee-o-murshid and stayed in Kashmir to preach Islam. Some of his relatives are buried in the compound, who, it is believed, were brought miraculously to Kashmir by Sheikh Noor-udDin Wali, alongwith, the piece of graveyard, in which they were buried in Balkh, at the request of Syed Balkhi. Hence the name Pakharpora, Pokher meaning - piece of land. Even today one can see some peculiar old trees planted on that particular piece of graveyard land, trees which we don't find in Kashmir at all.
