Palacio Nacional de Sintra

Largo Rainha D. Amelia

About

The landmark National Palace of Sintra with its twin conical chimneys is set in the heart of the historic town of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The only surviving royal palace from the Middle Ages, the Paço Real as it is also known, became the preferred summer retreat for Portuguese royalty until the 1880s. The interior contains a rich inventory of rare and beautiful artefacts set in magnificent rooms. The decorated domed ceiling and tiled panel walls of the Sala dos Brasões (Coast of Arms Room) is a highlight. The Sala dos Cisnes, or Swan Room, is another. It's also worth exploring the grounds by taking the Garden Tour.
