Karl Benz Strasse 21 Cuisines: Asian, European

About

It's like wandering into a vehicle about to set off on some space odyssey. Actually, it's a "bed restaurant." The chic patrons, mostly in their 20s and 30s, are barefoot, semi-reclining on white-leather beds while they're served sublime food. Dining areas are bathed in iridescent light in harmonious color moods. The waterbed is a special delight, surrounded by a virtual aquarium. All guests dine at the same time, with the reception beginning at 7:30pm and dinner service following at 8pm and lasting for most of the evening. The prix-fixe menu consists of several courses. Definitely plan to make an evening of it if you dine here. The experimental cuisine is presented with equally innovative music in the background. Only fresh seasonal ingredients are used, and Mediterranean diversity meets Asian minimalism, as you sample such delights as a succulent lobster spiked with mango, Serrano ham, and lemon grass. Perhaps you'll have a rack of lamb with a sauerkraut risotto (a first for many diners), or else corn ravioli with pumpkinseed oil, or smoked salmon with marinated fresh fennel. The restaurant is also a night club, open Friday and Saturday 9pm to 6am. The restaurant lies in the Fechenheim district, east of the center, a 10-minute tram ride.
