Sivagiri Mutt

Sprawling over an area of 200 acres, Sivagiri Mutt is an important religious shrine visited by many pilgrims. This place is home to Sree Narayan Guru's samadhi and personal belongings. Another significant element here is the Sarada Temple, dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge. This temple was consecrated by Shree Narayan Guru in 1912 to lay stress on the importance of education, adding a hint of social reformism to his spiritual cult. Also, this temple has a unique octagonal structure which was designed by the guru himself. Unlike other temples, this one has no elaborate rituals and devotees are free to offer their prayers as they please, particularly with hyms and songs dedicated to the goddess.
