Smithwicks Brewery

Parliament Street

About

There's always been a significant minority of people that find Smithwicks ale a refreshing alternative to the "pint of plain", and the Smithwick's HQ is proud of the fact that it happens to be the oldest brewery in Ireland. Constructed within the grounds of St. Francis' Abbey, Smithwicks has reaped rewards from the rumour that the 12th-century monks who lived in the abbey were fond of brewing their own ale. The brewery itself was established by John Smithwick in 1710, and it's worth a visit to the site for the smell alone. Admission is free and you even get a complementary drink!
