About

Sonanadi River has been named after the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary that lies near Corbett National Park. This wildlife sanctuary is an important part of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. A tributary of the Ramganga River, it enters Corbett National Park from the north-west direction and meets the Ramganga River at the reservoir. The river has gained its name meaning 'river of gold', owing to the grains of gold, which were found in the alluvial deposits washed down from the higher areas. These grains were extracted from the bed sand by sieving, washing and mercury treatment.
