Officially known as the Catholic Church of St. Mary of the Assumption, this limestone cathedral is designed in the Gothic Revival style, in the shape of a cross. Construction began in 1842, was interrupted by the famine, and concluded in 1855, although the towering spire wasn't added until 1912.
