The State Archaeological Museum, one of the oldest in India, was built in 1876 by Colonel Sankey, located within Cubbon Park, is similar in design to the Attara Kacheri in its architectural style and hue. While the original collection in the museum belonged to Benjamin L. Rice of the Mysore Gazetteer, antiquities from the Mohenjodaro period are on display as well as specimens of Vijaynagar and Halebid architecture, ancient coins, bronzes, paintings, arms and armour, and stone inscriptions as old as 5000 years. Open: 10am-5pm every day except Mondays. Admission: Rs4.
