Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort

Cebu City, Philippines

About

Sumilon is a Visayan word meaning "to take refuge" (fishermen who would dock on the island in times of bad weather or storms). From the town of Oslob, in the southeastern tip of Cebu Province (125km south of Cebu City), you can take a 15-minute boat ride to the enchanted small island (Incidentally it is also near Dumaguete). You can go snorkeling or scuba diving in it's 39-hectare marine sanctuary (the first to be declared as such in the Philippines) and find many marine species not usually found in the nearby sea waters of Bohol or Dumaguete. And to think that a few years back this place has been ravaged by dynamite-fishing and Muro Amis looking for fish to survive... Appreciate the pristine azure-waters and a sandbar that changes shape with the ebb or swell of the tide. Also find very romantic the natural lagoon teeming with high mangroves and natural caves where fishermen would take refuge... Discover a nineteenth-century light house or "baluarte" and feel history creep into your goosebumps at the sight of it. Also find most spectacular the view from the highest peak what with your sight of the waters of the pool merging with the sea water below!
