Tapada das Necessidades

Rua Largo do Rilvas, Lisboa,

About

It is not very big, but it's the right size. Not too much crowded, once it was rebuilt 2 or 3 years ago. Before that it was not at all well preserved and Lisbonners as well as Tourists did not have the habit to frequent it. Nowadays, in the summer it is also used as a venue for several cultural initiaves such as the stage for the "Cool Jazz Fest", with open air gigs and DJ performances. This garden belongs to the Palace with the same name with history going back to the 14th Century, having been the Official Residency for many Kings and Queens of the Portuguese Kingdom. The Palace has also been recently rebuilt and since Portugal is a Republic since 1910, it is now the Head Office for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The garden is open from monday to friday 08am - 7pm; weekends and holydays 10am - 7 pm free of charge
