Although competition is growing the National Theater remains the best place see the best Albanian artists in action. During communism it has been one of the few places that you could go to enjoy real art although mainly classical plays that were screened for any "outside performance", meangin any thing foreign that was against the communist regime. The best plays in the history of mankind were played there, from Aeschylus to Shakespeare, Moliere, Gogol, Cehov, Wilde as well as top Albanian plays from Cajupi to Ismail Kadare. Unfortunately it plays only in Albanian, but it does not stop you to achieve a catharsis or an emotional cleansing as Aristotle has suggested. The building also needs to be redecorated or even moved to a bigger or better building.
