The decor at Tomato's draws inspiration from the America of the 50s and 60s. Posters of Presley and other rock stars, memorabilia, the diner-style stainless steel booths, the 'mocktail' bar with floor-mounted counter stools, terrazzo floors and red-and-black upholstery, props like a bubblegum machine and American license plates, will certainly rouse your interest. Its owner, Rushad Ginwala, a rock 'n' roll enthusiast, is a firm believer that this period in American history produced superb music, spectacular movies, comedy TV shows and superlative Broadway plays. The ambience and the menu naturally go hand in hand, and the latter features events that saw the rise of teen culture, Hollywood and music superstars, sports icons. Expectedly, Tomato's is strong on American faves like Crumb-fried Chicken, Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast, Skillet Vegetables and a strong selection of Mexican food, especially Tex-Mex/Californian Mexican dishes like Chilli Bean and Corn Soup, Prawns with Mexican Barbecue Sauce, Roast Chicken with Mexican Hot Sauce, and Char-grilled Fish with Tex-Mex spices in a cheesy sauce besides the usual enchiladas, tacos and tortillas.
