Traditional Fishing Village

Malacca, Melaka, Malaysia

About

The Malacca River was the locale for a movie scene which visually depicted the monstrously expensive Petronas Twin Towers rising out of a slum. Near the Malacca Tourist Information Centre, boats can be rented to check out the make-believe prop, minus the skyscraper but no less entertaining. Along the river banks people still live on stilts as they did when skyscrapers and movies were half a millennium away, and barges and junks still crowd the nearby docks as if super-tankers and container ships had never been invented. Never mind the stench that somehow has also survived, time travel is a speciality of this town.
