This summer pop-up cafe and restaurant – a very temporary establishment – debuted in July on Vuurtoreneiland, an island northeast of Amsterdam’s city centre. The Zomerrestaurant is open to diners on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through September. Located inside a specially constructed greenhouse, the cafe presents a locally-produced menu on the shores of one of Amsterdam’s most rugged, exotic and little-seen locales. Family lunches and four-course dinners are served on Sundays.Advance reservations are always required and guests can reach the island by boat from the boarding point near the Lloyd Hotel on the IJ.Unfortunately, due to an incident on 2 September 2013, the restaurant was damaged by fire. Upcoming bookings have been cancelled and those with tickets will receive a refund.
