The Yonge-Dundas Square is trying desperately hard to be Toronto's answer to Times Square, with varying degrees of success. It is ringed with huge billboards and jumbotrons running a variety of advertisements for products and local televisions stations. Really, it is the location that sells the site - right in the heart of downtown, just outside the Eaton Centre, within spitting distance of Hard Rock Café, TOTix, the World's Biggest Bookstore, movie cinemas, theatres and restaurants. It also plays host to a wide variety of events, from fundraisers, to spin classes, to farmers' markets. Through 2011, there are plans for the square to have a series of free concerts and free outdoor movie nights, so check the website for listings.
