Popular forts and palaces in Macau

Here's a list of Popular forts and palaces in Macau recommended by our experts:

In 2005, the historic centre of Macao was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Macau is a place of tremendous historical value as it has long been the city where East meets West. It was the first and last European colony in China and represents over 400 years of Chinese and Western cultural exchange. Macau’s rich and diverse history has left it with a wealth of historic sites and buildings to explore. The city’s heritage is extremely well preserved and offers many opportunities to visit the monuments and landmarks that characterize its unique and fascinating history. The most famous of these are concentrated in the Historic Centre of Macau – a UNESCO World Heritage site. These are some of the top historical attractions you may want to consider while visiting Macau. Most of the UNESCO sites are concentrated around Senado Square and the Ruins of St Paul’s, with some of the sites spreading out to other locations a relatively short walk away. A little further into Macau, there are many more interesting historical attractions. One of the most recognisable landmarks in Macau, the Ruins of St. Paul’s are all that remains of a 16th century complex which included the Church of St Paul (Mater Dei) and St Paul’s College. The college was one of the largest in Asia when it was first built, at a time when Macau was the main port in the Pearl River Delta (before being overtaken by Hong Kong). The attraction is a lovely walk up from Senado Square, past the shops, cafes and street food vendors. Here is a list of the popular forts and palaces in Macau:
