Bar Luiz

Centro Cuisines: European

About

One of the oldest and best-loved bars in Rio, Bar Luiz has occupied the same downtown art deco building since it first opened its doors back in 1927. The food here is mainly German, and the bar was in fact known as Bar Adolf until the onset of World War Two, when it was changed for fairly obvious reasons! On the menu are hearty German dishes such as smoked sausages served with potato salad – a speciality of the house. The draught beer (known as choppe) is well-kept and served perfectly chilled, and the bar attracts a loyal crowd of city workers as well as a few hungry and thirsty tourists.
