Located in Cappoquin, County Waterford, Blackwater Boating offers a range of activities on the expansive Blackwater River. This is a chance to explore both the river and the flora and fauna that thrive on Ireland’s third largest river.There are a whole host of options from which to choose whether you’re a nature buff or have a deep interest in the magnificent stately homes on the river’s shores. Choose from family canoe trips or those with a focus on adrenalin and adventure. Then again, you might prefer to have a wilderness experience and combine canoeing with camping, or spend half your time on the water and the other on a bike. Trips range from half day to full day to overnight camping outings. Blackwater Boating also offers team-building events.Owner Denis Murray is an avid rower and native of Cappoquin so you’ll be in safe local hands. Murray is a lifelong member of Cappoquin Rowing Club and has great personal knowledge of the river and its surrounds. Blackwater Boating is his way of sharing that magic. All trips take place in Irish Canoe Union-approved canoes and kayaks. This river, which rises in the mountains east of Killarney and flows east to Lismore before entering the sea at Youghal, is not to be missed. At Cappoquin the waters are tidal and salmon are constantly running. It is a major salmon river which also holds a lot of trout. The salmon angling season opens on 1 February and ends on 30 September. Flanked by the Knockmealdown Mountains and inhabited by untamed wildlife the river is absolutely breathtaking all year round. A river steeped in history, her banks are dotted with lovingly maintained stately homes and stunning architecture.And when you’re finished on the water, Cappoquin offers lots of other attractions, including friendly pubs, restaurants and accommodation. The heritage town of Lismore is also nearby, with its stunning castle that dates from 1185. The cities of Cork and Waterford are both approximately an hour’s drive from Cappoquin should you yearn for shopping, theatre and cinemas.
