Day 1: Arrival At Chiang Mai And Transfer To Hmong Hilltribe Lodge
Leave Chiang Mai by 4WD Land Rover to visit an elephant camp at Mae Saa. Watch the elephants taking timber in the forest. Their strength and clever teamwork will amaze you. Continue to visit an Orchid Farm. After lunch, proceed to the Hmong Hill tribe Village at Nong Hoi Mai. Check in at Hmong Hilltribe Lodge. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to discover the many activities in the hill tribe village. B.B.Q. dinner at Hmong Hilltribe Lodge followed by a presentation of Hmong dances and songs.
Day 2: Hmong Hilltribe Lodge To Pai
After breakfast, leave Hmong Hilltribe Lodge on rarely used dirt roads via Baan Pa Lan to Baan Pong Kwaw. Visit a farmer’s house and a small temple. Continue driving through the forest to Pai. Enjoy beautiful scenery along Huey Nam Dang National Park area, where the road passes. Check-in at Pai Hotspring Spa Resort. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Pai To Mae Hong Son
After breakfast, visit Lahu hill tribes at Baan Look Kao Lahm and Baan Pang Ma Pha. Continue to Lod Cave. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit a Karen village at Muang Pam where women are still weaving their clothes. Upon arrival in Mae Hong check in at Fern Resort Mae Hong Son. Dinner and overnight at the resort.
Day 4: Mae Hong Son
After breakfast, transfer to an elephant camp. Enjoy a 45-minute ride on the back of an elephant through the forest and across the Pai River. Continue by 4WD to Pha Sua Waterfall, where a basket lunch will be served. In the afternoon drive to Ban Nai Soi to visit the Khaya (Karen) hill tribe village, home of the Long-necked Padong tribe. The women are wearing numerous brass rings around their elongated necks, which they never take off. Then board a motorized long-tail boat for a scenic journey downriver from the suspension bridge back to Mae Hong Son. Dinner at Fern Restaurant in town, overnight at Fern Resort Mae Hong Son.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, drive uphill to visit Wat Phra Dhat Doi Kong Moo, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view over Mae Hong Son on clear days. Visit the Burmese style temples Wat Jong Kham and Wat Jong Klang, located next to a large pond in the southern part of town. Shan people, who make up about 50% of the population of Mae Hong Son, built Wat Jong Kham nearly 200 years ago. Wat Jong Klang houses 100-year-old glass paintings and woodcarvings from Burma, which depict the various lives of the Buddha. Get ready for the 5-hour drive back to Chiang Mai with lunch at a local restaurant en route. Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, transfer to your hotel. Note: You may also opt to return to Chiang Mai by noon flight (lunch not included). Please be warned, that flights between Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai are often postponed or cancelled during the harvesting season during February and March.
