Port Blair is the largest city and the capital of the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The city gets its name from Lieutenant Archibald Blair, who is said to have established a colony at its site in the year 1789. Notably, this town is home to the famous Cellular Jail National Memorial, which was formerly a jail where many freedom fighters were incarcerated at the time of Indian Independence Movement.

Day-wise Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive In Port Blair - Cellular Jail And Light & Sound Show

  • Fly in to Port Blair Airport. Our representative will meet and assist you at the Veer Savarkar Airport. Board the waiting vehicles, drive to your hotel / resort and check in.
  • First half of the day is at leisure. Later in the afternoon visit Cellular jail followed by light and sound show.
  • The Cellular Jail has a pride of place in India's freedom struggle. Many a stalwart were imprisoned here. Declared a national memorial, this three storey prison constructed by Britishers in 1906, is a pilgrimage destination for freedom fighters. This colossal edifice has mutely witnessed the most treacherous of inhumane atrocities borne by the convicts, who were mostly freedom fighters. The day draws to a gentle close with the Sound and Light Show at the historic Cellular Jail which gives you a vivid experience of its strong association with the freedom fighters and their struggle for independence. Return to hotel for overnight stay.
  • Light and Sound Show at 1800 hrs or 1900 Hrs, depending on ticket availability (English version is only on alternate days). Cellular Jail is closed on Monday and Govt Holidays.
  • The Light and Sound Show can get cancelled if it rains with amount being non-refundable.
  • For Light and Sound show, please carry photo ID proof (PAN card not accepted) or you will not be allowed entry.

Day 2: Ross Island And North Bay Island (Coral Island) Tour

  • Today after breakfast, embark on a half day trip to two Island cruise. It covers a panorama of seven harbors that includes North Bay and Ross Island which will leave a lasting impression.
  • Ross Island - Once the administrative headquarters of the British and capital of these Islands, the island is now under the Indian Navy. It stands now as a ruin of the bygone days with the old structures almost in debris. There is a small museum named Smritika, it holds photographs and the other antiques of the Britishers relevant to these Islands. The Island is famous for friendly flocks of Deer and lush green walking trails.
  • North Bay - The water lovers may enjoy Snorkeling or Glass bottom boat ride (Optional) in its shallow waters with a chance to see corals up close and also has mesmerizing picnic spots with natural picturesque environment. Return to the hotel by evening for overnight stay.
  • Ross Island is closed on Wednesday.
  • Ferry for Ross Island leaves at fixed timings and request you to ensure at WSC at the given time.
  • The boats (6 seater) to the islands are limited in number and seat in boat is subject to availability. Tour is subject to weather conditions.
  • Glass bottom boat ride, snorkelling, water sports are at an extra cost at North Bay. (Approx Cost for Snorkelling is Rs 800/- PP & Glass Bottom Ride is 500/- PP on sharing basis. Cost may change subject to availability).
  • Diving and Sea Walk can be done at an extra cost at North Bay. (Approx cost for Sea Walk is Rs 3500/- PP & Jet Ski is Rs 1000/- PP. Cost may change subject to availability)
  • Please carry change of clothes, towel, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen and wear comfort clothing for this trip.

Day 3: Baratang Island Excursion

  • A slightly hectic tour may have challenges for one full day starting very early morning. This will cover areas around Baratang Island. This tour includes Backcountry, Backwater Boat ride, Cave, Jungles & Wildlife, Mountain Roads, Scenic Views, Tribal Area (Jarwa), Volcano etc.
  • Travel from Port Blair to Baratang Island. Visit to limestone Caves and Mud volcano. Ride through a fascinating Mangrove drive, which leads to the start point of the trek to Lime stone caves. Trek through dense forest to reach the Limestone Cave which is made up of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate). The cave contains beautiful cave formation.
  • Return to Port Blair. Overnight stay in hotel.
  • In order to see mud volcano, you need to start at 3:30 am from the hotel. Otherwise, the tour starts at 6:30 am. Packed breakfast will be provided.
  • The road to Baratang passes through a forest reserve area. The road may sometime be blocked because of tree fall or animals on the road. This may lead to some delay in reaching Baratang.
  • While passing through the forest reserve, you may also see Jarwa tribals. You are not allowed to photograph them. If you are caught photographing, you may be jailed and asked to pay a fine of Rs. 45,000.
  • While passing through this area, a policeman may accompany you in the vehicle (as part of local authority regulation).

Day 4: Jolly Bouy Or Red Skin Excursion

  • After breakfast, proceed for full day trip to Jolly Buoy or Red Skin (only one is operational at a time) - part of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. It offers spectacular view of corals, fishes and marine life. Depart by 8:30 am for Wandoor to enter the Mahatma Gandhi National Park (29 kms from Port Blair, it is a 281 sq kms national park with 15 small and large Islands) followed up by 45 minutes boat ride through stunning uninhabited Islands. It is advisable to carry water and packed lunch.
  • To preserve the coral reefs and sea life forest department, regulates the tourist visits by keeping only one open to tourists for the time period. Renowned for its corals in crystal clear water, both islands offer serene beaches. For those with a yen for snorkelling and scuba diving, this is a must. Snorkelling is relatively easy and can be attempted by any swimmer while scuba diving requires specialized expertise. Return to the hotel for overnight stay.
  • The road to Wandoor passes through reserve forest area. The road may sometime be blocked because of tree fall or animals on the road. This may lead to some delay in reaching Wandoor.
  • Boat tickets for the island are issued 3 days in advance. Due to limited seats, the tickets are subject to availability.
