Abu Christo

Near the Lighthouse, Old City Cuisines: Seafood

About

This well-known restaurant is particularly nice in good weather, when you can sit out on the shaded terrace beside the sea and enjoy the delightful vista, which includes a view of Haifa across the bay, waves almost at your feet, and, at times, local daredevils diving from the ancient ruins. It's a wonderful place for a leisurely, Greek Island-style meal. For appetizers, a generous and especially good round of Middle Eastern salads and pita is included in the price of every main course. Most main courses are straightforward dishes such as steak and grilled skewers of lamb. The best choice is the very fresh grilled catch of the day (the grouper is delectable), served with french fries; there's also interesting seafood such as skewered shrimp in sesame garlic sauce cooked on an open fire. Abu Christo often features special low-price treats, such as tiny fresh fish fried in garlic, which you eat, bones, heads, and all. There's a full bar and very attentive, friendly service. Be sure to reserve a table alongside the sea.
