Amigo Emil

El Khanka St. Bazaar (left side as you go downhill)

About

This friendly place with its sparkling tables, glasses, and goblets, is set on a quiet bazaar street at the edge of the Christian Quarter. It's a good choice for a Western-style meal and a break from the bustle of the Old City. You can order chicken wings in barbecue sauce; omelets; old-fashioned chicken soup; meat lasagna; boneless, breaded chicken breast stuffed with Israeli cheese; a meze of Arabic appetizers; a nice chicken curry; spicy Lebanese-style fish; or grilled meats. There are special touches, such as delicious carabage halab (a wonderful Arabic pastry made by the owner's family); fresh tangerine juice in season; and good espresso. The dining rooms offer atmosphere, with arches and exposed, ancient stone walls. As this is a Christian-owned establishment, there's a wine and beer list.
