Arnos Vale Waterwheel (The)

East of Plymouth

About

The Arnos Vale Waterwheel, built in 1857, is still intact to this day. A sugar factory once stood at this location, right at the north end of Plymouth. The wheel once powered the factory's mill. The wheel has now been made the centrepiece of a nature park which includes a restaurant, a museum, a gift shop, restaurant and bar, and a small theater. In addition to the wheel, the site still contains crushing rollers, the boiler, and a chimney and steam engine, all of which represent the whole history of industrial archaeology. The site is now a haven for bird watchers and those seeking great nature trails.
