Artists or hobbyists on holiday in Athens should absolutely veer off of the beaten path to search out this two level store of fine art supplies near Omonia. High quality sketching pads, Van Gogh brand oil paints, French watercolor paper, German graphite pencils, English pots of dyes...it's a treasure chest for travel sketchers or just the creatively inclined. The staff is exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable, most with a tight hold on the English language in case you're looking for something specific. A wide range of canvas sizes and field easels are sold on the second floor. To get there, take the metro to the Omonia station and exit toward the street called "3 Septembriou." Head down 3 Septembriou until you reach Kapodistriou. Take a right; the shop is on the left, usually marked by several art students holding their new purchases in one hand, a cigarette in the other. Store hours: M-Sat, 9-8 Sunday 12-6 Call if you're concerned as little business or holidays might lead to an earlier closing time.
