The Melbourne Athenaeum is Melbourne's oldest cultural institution, starting life as the city's first Mechanics Institute in 1839. Today's Athenaeum houses the heritage-listed Athenaeum Theatre, the Last Laugh at the Comedy Club, the Melbourne Athenaeum Library. The Hall became a regular venue for screening films and the premiere.  The theatre in its present form was created in 1921. The theatre was the first venue in Australia to screen talking pictures.It is popular for  Theater ,  Comedy Club , and  General Entertainment.
