About

This memorial was opened in 1992 by the then Prime Minister Paul Keating. It is an imposing, asymmetrical structure, which seems to symbolize the confusion and destruction caused by this war. Made from steel, and black and gray stone, with a moat surrounding the main chamber, this memorial seems both peaceful and ominous. The main wall is very confronting, covered in quotes, phrases, and words to remind us of how horrific the Vietnam War was. Six seats surround the main memorial; these are dedicated to the memory of Vietnamese servicemen who went missing in action.
