About

Azad Maidan (formerly known as the Camp Maidan) is one of the most historically significant places of Mumbai. Situated, just opposite the majestic Victoria Terminus, this triangular ground dates back to the early 19th century, when cattle from the Fort area grazed here. During the days of the freedom struggle, massive protest rallies were organized by leaders and freedom fighters at the maidan, thus giving it its name (azad implies "free"). The huge ground, consisting few dusty cricket pitches, is fully utilized by the league cricket teams and the general public as well. To the south of the Azad Maidan is the Bombay Gymkhana, another significant location. Drop in at the Azad Maidan and breathe in the beauty of Bombay!
