Ballymote and District Angling Club members are actively involved in both game and coarse fishing and competitions are held throughout the calendar year. The club is committed to the development of angling facilities and in the education of junior and novice anglers in the new techniques involved in the sport of angling.Ballymote and the surrounding area offers anglers excellent coarse and game fishing in a number of lakes and rivers in close proximity to the town of Ballymote. Game anglers can enjoy a sporting day's fishing at Lough Na Leibe, a small lake situated three miles from Ballymote which has been noted for its naturally spawning stock of rainbow trout, one of the only such sites in Ireland. The club stock this lake for its members and offers a day ticket permit to non members and visiting anglers. The coarse angler will be spoiled for choice with large stocks of bream, rudd, specimen tench, carp, hybrids and roach fishing on your doorstep. In August 2012, Cathal Hughes, World Silver Medalist and World Pairs Champion 2012, broke the 100lbs barrier in a five hour coarse competition ran by Ballymote and District Angling Club, in conjuction with Inland Fisheries Ireland at Templehouse Lake, Ballymote.
