Bannerghatta National Park is popular among tourists, especially nature lovers. Spread over an area of 104 sq. km, the park was inaugurated in the year 1971. Situated 21 km away from the city, this national park is abode of lions, tigers and crocodiles, among other animal species. Among other attractions of National Park, the snake farms are quite popular with the visitors. This national park encompasses ten reserve forests of Anekal Range, which are under the Bangalore Forest Division. Zoo Authority of Karnataka, University of Agricultural Sciences and the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE) have set up Butterfly Park within the premises. Sprawling across 7.5 acres, Butterfly Park comprises butterfly conservatory, a museum and an audio-visual room. Housing 20 species of butterflies, the park is covered by a polycarbonate roof for creating tropical, humid and artificial climate.
