Although it no longer has a monopoly on the sale of antiques, this state-owned trading house continues to control the lion's share of the antiques market in Hungary. BÁV people will tell you where to take an item for valuation, however, once it is purchased, they will only refund 60% of the paid price if their permission to export is denied, so it is best to take photographs first and then only purchase the item after receiving permission to export certificates. Hours are Monday through Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
