The Bindea Walking Track is a 22 kilometre walk which can be subdivided into a series of shorter loops, taking in the commercial and residential sections of town, the Porcupine Reserve, Porcupine Lookout and Avards Lookout. Kangaroos, wallaroos and koalas are often seen at the reserve late in the afternoon Bindea Walking Track offers a range of different walks of various lengths. Trackhead Walk points of interest include the Dorothea Mckellar commemorative statue, the Water Tower Museum, Arthur Heath Park, Gunnedah Aged Care Centre, Koala Area, Kangaroo Viewing Point, Avards Lookout, Porcupine Reserve, Porcupine Lookout and Stock Road. The Tower Walk is 2.9 kilometres long and the Porcupine Walk is 4.5 kilometres. Bindea, "the place where shrubs look like porcupine quills", was the name given to the ridges south east of Gunnedah. A self-guided walk map is available from the Gunnedah Visitors Centre.
