Café Husaren

Haga Nygata 24

About

Past lives have included stints as a pharmacy, a milliner, and a bank. Today it is the best known, most animated, and most popular cafe in the Haga district of Gothenburg. The century-old decor includes a reverse-painted glass ceiling conceived in 1890 in tones of cerulean blue with flowers. Place your order for well-stuffed sandwiches, freshly made salads (the shrimp salad is very good), and pastries, which include the biggest, most fattening, and most succulent cinnamon rolls in town. (They're the size of small pizzas, and a lot thicker.) You carry your food to one of the indoor or, in summer, outdoor tables.
