A visit to the Calle Dieciocho at the city center will give you a perfect imagery of the city in the 19th Century. The structures in this part of the city was where the elite used to live before the turn of the 20th Century. Inside these structures one can observe the dazzling opulence that was once a part of this neighborhood. The Palacio Cousiño Macul at its center is a well-preserved palace belonging to the Goyenechea-Cousiño family and it is still endowed with Bohemian crystal chandeliers and French tapestries. A stroll down the street will take you to the a small leisure park Parque Almagro and a monastery Basílica del Santísimo Sacramento which was built at the beginning of the 20th Century.
