About

This house of poet C. P. Cavafy has been charmingly reconstructed and offers a relaxing way to spend an hour or so away from the crowds. Cavafy, who was born in Alexandria in 1863 and lived most of his life there until his death in 1933, was much admired by E. M. Forster, who lived several years during World War I in Alexandria and wrote a fabulous guidebook to the city. Cavafy's belongings and books (though the furnishings are authentic period pieces, his actual furniture was sold before the museum was founded in 1991) are housed in his apartment on the second floor of an old apartment building and evoke not only the life of the poet but of the period.
