About

Originally established as a forestry camp when there was logging on Fraser Island, Central Station's beautiful rainforest area houses a display explaining the development of the island and its various flora and fauna, an information centre and picnic area. Central Station has a short boardwalk around Wanggoolba Creek and through the rainforest. In the heart of the rainforest Central Station is so named because it was the central Forestry Department station from 1920 to 1959. Many cottages were built during this time for the workers, the remnants still stand today as a reminder of this period. This is now one of the most popular scenic areas on the island, containing story broads and information panels on the history of Fraser Island.
