Centre d'Interprétation des Mammifères Marins

On the waterfront

About

Start here when you arrive to understand why Tadoussac is such a paradise for whale researchers. At this interpretation center directly on the Saguenay River's edge, there's a small exhibition room (plaques are in French with English booklets for translation), an exhilarating 15-minute video about the whales who visit each summer (in French, with English translation by headphone), and a bilingual expert who answers questions and explains what the team who works upstairs -- as many as 50 people in summer -- are up to. Its shop sells books, cuddly toys, and clothing. The center is run by the nonprofit GREMM, a scientific research group that studies the St. Lawrence's marine mammals and posts updates about local whale activity at www.whales-online.net.
