Forty displays trace the early days of cinema i.e. the main inventions that led to the discovery of cinematography by the Lumière brothers. Most of the displays have a mechanism allowing the visitor to activate the devices on show and understand how they work. The two adjoining projection rooms present the history of cinema courtesy of five evening projections each day: the first room (125 seats) presents three film talkies daily. The second (30 seats) is devoted entirely to silent film (two films shown daily, with live piano accompaniment). A cinema documentation centre has recently opened with thousands of books, magazines and more than a million photographs, which can be perused in the reading room.
