About

Erected to remember the shared experiences and struggles of the major of races during World War II, the Civilian War Memorial is dedicated to all those who perished during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore between 15 February 1942 and 12 September 1945. Located in the east of the Padang, you see four pillars of similar size and structure that rise to more than 60 metres, symbolic of the shared suffering of Singapore four main ethnic groups Malay, Chinese, Indian and Eurasian and those who died and were buried there.
