Como Agua Para Chocolate

Recoleta Cuisines: Mexican

About

This romantic restaurant in Bellavista, just steps from the well-visited Patio Bellavista is a visual experience. Like nothing else in Santiago, it has brightly colored walls, wrought iron railings, heavy wooden tables and stone walls in copy of a Mexican ranch house. The most coveted table, reserved long in advance and appropriate for bigger groups is a table designed to look like a bed, with a metal headboard and footboard. The menu is heavily fish and meat based, with one vegetarian option, which is the vegetarian fajitas, which serves two. Meat offerings include steak and sausages, and fish include sesafood fajitas, a white fish in a creamy roquefort sauce and rice served Veracruz style, which includes squid rings, oysters and shrimp and served in a coconut shell. Some of the deserts (particularly the mousse cakes can be gelatinous, but in general, they are good, and often have delicate touches of chocolate curls or spun carmelized sugar wings on top. There is a good beer and wine selection, and while the place has a romantic cast to it, complete with oil lamps for illumination, you would not be out of place going with a group of friends. Reservations highly recommended.
