Dagim BaChatzer

In courtyard off 31 Jaffa Rd Cuisines: Seafood

About

A very promising new kosher fish restaurant set in an atmospheric, century-old building, Dagim BaChatzer (Fish in the Courtyard) serves a selection of drumfish, grouper, mullet, salmon, trout, bass, and St. Peter's fish (here called tilapia), all fried, grilled, or baked in a traditional stone oven (your choice). A meal begins with a meze of 10 interesting Middle Eastern salads served with fresh-from-the-stone-oven herbed focaccia. Main courses are cooked to perfection and served with earthy fried potatoes or steamed fresh vegetables. No meat is served, but nonfish eaters can order salads and pastas. There's a full wine list, and you can order house wine by the glass. The rich, dairy pastries and desserts are excellent. The evening menu is offered at a discount during lunch, and there are special fish each day according to the fishermen's catch.
