About

Dahanu Fort, located at a distance of 24 km from Bordi, stands on the north bank of the river. This fort is built of cut stones with walls rising to a height of 38 ft and 10 ft thick. According to legends, this fort was captured by the Marathas under the leadership of Chimaji Rao Appa, in January 1739.Later in around 1817 AD, the fort was taken over by the British under the 'Treaty of Bassein'. Post independence, it was converted into a jail. This fort still stands strong in Dahanu; however the terraces were ruined in 1818.
