About

Diem Pottery is situated in Ashbourne in the Royal County of Meath. Originally learning his skills from his father in the village of Malahide, Co. Dublin, Thomas Diem set up his studio at its present location in 1999. Here, we try to provide something for everyone, we have a retail shop where all our pottery is available to purchase along with a wide range of pieces from other leading Irish craftspeople. From here, Thomas can be viewed creating exquisite traditional and contemporary pieces and is always happy to engage with visitors to explain the process of his work. The inspiration for the pieces can come from anywhere, shape and form are the main drivers and this can come from a beautiful landscape or a large architectural project.” The cleanness of a line or the softness of a curve can be a simple yet dramatic thing.”The studio itself is bright, spacious, child friendly and creates a lovely atmosphere to visit and maybe dwell a little longer if the inspiration takes you. At all times in the studio visitors can view the production area where all the pottery is produced by hand. “ Young and old, students are always amazed at what they can make and I get great satisfaction from seeing them progress and gain confidence in creating something by hand.”Diem Pottery have seating and self service tea/coffee with parking and toilets so there is never a need to rush away. There is a separate teaching area where people can decorate their own piece of pottery which is then fired in the kilns by us and we also cater for children’s pottery parties. We run kid’s summer camps every July and Thomas also takes small adult groups for an extensive eight week course every February and September. Our location near the Boyne Valley means we are close to heritage sites such as Newgrange and the Hill.
