Diwan-i-Am Hall of Public Audience

Diwan-i-Am Hall of Public Audience ,Red Fort, New Delhi, India

About

Diwa-i-Am is the public hall, which was used for general assembly and congregation during the period of Mughal rule. It is one of the feature attractions of the 17th century Red Fort and was probably our favourite of the various sights visited within the fort.

During its heyday this audience hall was apparently adorned with jewels and other decorations, and it was anchored by a splendid throne which the emperor used when hearing issues or making addresses on public matters in the public hall. Unfortunately, all evidence of the former grandeur of this audience hall has been removed, other than the throne. However, the many pillars remain, creating a hallowed out area, which is both thought provoking and very photogenic.
