About

The 5,000-year-old Dowth is an ancient passage tomb found in the Boyne Valley, not far from Drogeda, County Meath. It is part of Bru Na Boinne Megalithic Cemetery, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dowth, which has suffered damage in recent centuries, had two burial chambers and a ritual basin. The site also includes prehistoric drawings and an early Christian souterrain. Dowth means darkness.
