Dunamore Woods is a mixed woodland of broadleaves and conifers. Dunamore is about 5.5km south of Enniscorthy on a country road to Killuran, on the west side of the River Slaney. Two rivers flow through the property namely the rivers Gully and Nore. The name Dun an Oir has its origins in the legend of buried treasure by a member of a family of chieftains once prominent in County Wexford in the 13th century. Dun an Oir was originally part of the Beatty Estate at Borodale.There are 1km of forest and riverside walks and opportunities for fishing. This area contains a number of oak and beech trees (planted circa 1900) and Scots pine (planted circa 1900), some of which still remain. The music of many songbirds, particularly the thrush and blackbird rings through the forest. The site contains rabbits, badgers, foxes and fallow deer. There is also a beautiful display of bluebells in the woodland in spring. The site is a Coillte biodiversity area and recognising its importance to the Irish environment it contains a Natural Heritage Area and Special Area of Conservation.
