Dusit (Thai: ดุสิต) is a leafy, European-style area that is the political centre of Thailand. Its development dates back to the early 1900s, when King Rama V built the Dusit Palace, a complex of palaces and royal residences he created to escape the heat and chaos of the Grand Palace. The seat of power to this day, there are numerous political institutions, international organisations and royal palaces spread throughout. Dusit Thani College or DTC is a private college in Bangkok , Thailand specializing in hospitality management. Dusit Zoo at Khao Din Park is a city zoo in Bangkok , Thailand . Located at Khao Din Park in Bangkok's Dusit District next to the Parliament House and Dusit Palace, it is the oldest zoo of Thailand, built by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as his private garden adjacent to the royal palace. After the king's death, the garden was left unattended for years. The district was established by King Chulalongkorn , who wanted to escape the cluttered area of Rattanakosin Island . Vimanmek Palace was constructed in 1900 completely out of teak , and was used as a royal palace for a short time, but was abandoned in 1908. Reconstructed in 1992, it is now a major tourist attraction of the district. Chitralada Palace was built by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), and is still the residence of King Bhumibol Adulyadej . The large park around the palace is used by The King for agricultural research.
