About

This restaurant is as enchanting as its name implies -- el colibri is Spanish for hummingbird. Set within a funky, colored clapboard house with a large veranda overlooking a lovely garden, the building itself is a piece of art put together from recycled materials by its Anglo-Irish owner Mary O'Hanlon and her Italian husband. Mosaic-framed mirrors hang between stained-glass lamps and African face masks. Elephant woodcuts are illuminated by candelabras and there are delightful touches like small colored stones that hold down the place mats, lest the sea breeze carry them away. The menu could best be described as adventurous and organic. Hummus dip complements beef kabobs and the filet mignon comes in a sauce made with bacon and vodka cream. The homemade pâté is a revelation, made from chicken, bacon, and sherry. Check the chalkboard for the best on offer, as the menu is very much seasonal. Laid-back music adds to the overall relaxing atmosphere.
