Enginar

Galata Cuisines: Arabic

About

As with much of the history of Galata, no one knows for sure what the first building on this sight was, but turn the clock back 100 years and envision these bright "new" stones (additions to foundations that could date back 400 years) as an Italian bank, then later as a coffeehouse for the neighborhood Jewish community, and most recently as an Akbank. With its attractive lighting and interior resembling an old warehouse, Enginar is a comfortable and quiet place for a drink, and the food, seemingly simple by the looks of the menu, is quite good, too, although the portions are minuscule. Try their vegetable crepe for a lighter lunch, or go for broke with the ginger steak.
